Located just below tibia and fibula in ankle. It connects with the heel bone.
Atlas:
First vertebra lying just beneath skull.
Axis:
Second vertebra in neck, ling just below atlas.
Calcaneus:
Heel bone, the largest bone of the foot.
Calvarium:
Bones which form top of skull.
Capitate:
Largest bone in wrist, located toward center of wrist joint.
Carpal:
Eight small bones of wrist, viz., greater multangular, lesser multangular, lunate, capitate, hamate, navicular, triquetrum and pisiform bones.
Clavicle:
Collarbone extending from sternum to shoulder tip.
Coccyx:
Tailbone, the last vertebrae at base of spine.
Concha:
A shell shaped, small bone located along the outer side of nasal cavity.
Costal:
There are 12 bones on each side, arising from the spinal column.
Coxae:
The hipbone. It joins with sacrum and other hipbone to form the bony pelvis. The coxae is composed of 3 fused bones, viz., ilium, ischium and pubis.
Cranium:
The skull. It comprises occipital bone, 2 parietal bones, 2 temporal bones, 2 frontal bones, sphenoid and ethmoid bones.
Cuboid:
A cube shaped, small bone of the foot.
Cuneiform:
A general term for some of the small bones of foot or hand.
Ethmoid:
A small bone located in front of the base of the skull forming part of the orbit and nose. Within it are spaces, making up the ethmoid sinuses.
Facial:
There are 10 small bones, viz., nasal, zygoma, maxilla, vomer, palatine, lacrimal, nasal concha, ethmoid, sphenoid and mandible. which fuse to make up the bony structure of the face.
Femur:
The thighbone, extending from hip to knee.
Fibula:
Outer bone of leg, extending from knee to ankle.
Foot:
These consist of the 7 tarsal bones. viz., calcaneus, talus, cuboid, navicular and 3 cuneiforms, 5 metatarsal bones and the bones of the 5 toes.
Frontal:
Bones of the forehead, parts of the orbit and nose.
Humerus:
Arm bone, extending from shoulder to elbow.
Hyoid:
The thin U shaped bone beneath the chin and above the larynx.
Part of hipbone, into which the femur fits.
Incus:
One of three small bones of middle ear, adjacent to eardrum, this as also called the anvil.
Inferior turbinate:
Same as concha.
Innominate:
An old term for hipbone.
Ishium:
Part of hipbone.
Lacrimal:
A small bone of the skull located in front inner part of orbit.
Malar:
The cheekbone.
Malleus:
The hammer. One of 3 small bones of middle ear, adjacent to eardrum.
Mandible:
The jawbone. It is attached to the skull at the temperomandibular joint in front of the ear.
Maxilla:
The upper jawbone. It makes up part of the face, orbit, nose, etc.
Metacarpal:
The 5 bones of the hand to which the finger bones are attached.
Metatarsal:
The 5 bones of the foot to which the toe bones are attached.
Nasal:
The bones of the nose.
Navicular:
The small boat shaped bones of the hand and foot.
Occipital:
The back and part of base of skull.
An irregularly shaped bone making up part of the hard palate, nose and orbit.
Parietal:
This bone makes up part of the side and top of the skull.
Patella:
The kneecap.
Pelvis:
The bony pelvis is made up of the hipbones, sacrum and coccyx.
Phalanges:
The bones of fingers and toes.
Pubis:
The bone in front of pelvis.
Radius:
The long bone on outer side of forearm, extending from elbow to wrist.
Ribs:
There are 12 ribs on each side, arising from the spinal column in the back.
Sacrum:
Five fused vertebrae in the lower back which make up back part of bony pelvis.
Scapula:
The shoulder blade. It connects with the collarbone and humerus of upper arm.
Sesamoid:
Small, irregularly shaped bones in tendons or sites where muscles or tendons rub against largest bones. They are seen most often in hands or feet.
Skull:
It is composed of the occipital, 2 parietal, 2 temporal, 2 frontal, the sphenoid and ethmoid bones.
Sphenoid:
An irregularly shaped bone making up the front portion of the base of the skull and parts of the orbit and nose.
Stapes:
One of 3 small bones of middle ear adjacent to eardrum, it is also called the stirrup.
Sternum:
The breastbone. Cartilages of ribs and collarbone are attached to the sternum.
Talus:
The same as the astragalus.
Tarsal:
The same as the astragalus.
Temporal:
The bone forming the front portion of side of skull and part of base.
Tibia:
The large inner bone of the leg extending from knee to ankle. It is responsible for weight bearing.
Turbinate:
Three bones located on outer side of the nasal cavity.
Tympanic:
Three small bones of middle ear, viz., the incus, maleus and staes.
Ulna:
The long bone on the inner side of forearm, extending from elbow to wrist.
Vertebrae:
The spinal column, or backbone. There are 33 vertebrae, viz., 7 in neck, 12 in chest, 5 in lower back, and 9 making up the sacrum and coccyx.
Vomer:
This bone forms the back segment of the nasal septum separating the two sides of the nose.
Wrist:
The same as the carpal bones.
Zygoma:
The cheekbone.
